Congrats! I lost 50 lbs, thanks to a combination of gluten/dairy free dieting, exercising, and getting my thyroid under control. Doesn’t it feel so much better???

About 4 years ago I lost 60lbs. and have consistently kept most of it off. It’s a conscious decisions every day about what to eat. I try to eat fruits, vegetables, good carbs and lean protein everyday. My splurg is dark chocolate. I am not gluten intolerant but still have learned a lot about grains and flours and enjoy your recipes. Keep up the good work! Good luck with culinary school.
    Best Regards,
    Bettie

@Bettie@Wineablegifts, Congrats on your weight loss! Wow. I agree – it’s a daily choice. And, it’s about not beating yourself up when you make a bad choice. Progress, not perfection, is my constant motto.

Congratulations Amy! I have been visiting your website since going gluten free 8 months ago. I started exercising a year and a half ago, and have lost 50 lbs to date. I lost the majority of it after going gluten free. I still struggle with the sugar, but am trying to incorporate some of your ideas and recipes into my own life. Thank you so much for your inspiration! :)

    HI Amy,

I just stumbled across your website, from Whole Life Nutrition….

I am 13 days into a 42 day candida cleanse along with all suspected allergens, which include dairy, grains and gluten. I can related to the carb eating and wanting more and more… I am finding it hard today, but not as hard as day 4. I am hoping that when I am done 42 days that I won’t want to bring sugar back into my diet. Reading your posts are inspiring. Thank you…

@stephanie, Hi Stephanie. :) I suspect that candida is at the root of my problems as well. What type of cleanse are you doing? I am not doing well fending off the sugar.. I crave it like crazy and I never seem to stay off it more than a week. I also have the dairy allergy. I’d like to know how you’re doing and if you could give me any tips.

    Good luck! :)

@Terri, It took me much longer than a week to get the sugar cravings to go away. More like three or four weeks.

It’s not an instant fix – it takes time and effort but it was worth it. At least it was for me.

    Hugs,
    Amy

@Amy, Thanks Amy! :) The main problem with a candida diet is that you need to cut out all sugar, even the natural kind from fruits until the candida is under control. (since yeast feeds off any kind of sugar.)My problem is that I can’t stop eating fruit, stevia and agave in my baked goods. :( I think in the long run if I am to succeed at this diet, I need to plan out my meals and have healthy snacks to get me through until the candida is beat down. :)

    @Terri,

Thanks Terri! I am following a guide that my naturopathic set out for me. It includes some supplements to kill the yeast along with liver and immune support. I am in day 22 of 42 of my cleanse and it is tough. Along with my candida I am eliminating all allergens, so for me that includes, wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, goat and gluten. So a couple pieces of fruit I am allowed. :) But no stevia or agave. I have to say that it takes time for you taste buds to develop new flavors(?) and I find that I am eating more savory then sweet. I like your idea of planning ahead, I find that I do that as well, at least so I know when I am hungry I can reach for a rice cake with cashew butter, or a bowl of veggies and some hummus. That said its still hard. But I’m interested to see what will be on the other side. Good Luck…Keep me posted.

@Stephanie, Wow, you’re on a more strict diet than I am! I have a good book on candida, and it said that you should avoid all simple carbs like white potatoes and white rice. That’s going to be the tough part for me since my husband and I eat a lot of white jasmine rice.

If you’d like to talk more about this, can you email me at jeeviebaby@gmail.com? I don’t want to take over Amy’s page with a lot of posts! :) Take care! Hope to hear from you soon. :)

Looking at these pictures makes me smile for you and cry for me. I was always thin as a teen and didn’t gain my weight until I became pregnant with my first child. A combination of leaving work to stay home with my kids and sitting at the computer, coupled with bad feet now makes me feel like I keep getting bigger. I’ll be watching your blog a little more closely now. :)

Hi, I just want to let you know how much I love your blog! I just stumbled over it about 6 weeks ago and it has completely changed my way of eating. I have steadily gained weight since I graduated high school. I did successfully loose 40 pounds about 3 years ago, but have gained 30 of it back. You have really inspired me to change my way of eating and thinking about food. I have been gluten free and refined sugar free for 4 weeks now. I started with a detox diet where the first week was raw fruits and veggies only. That really helped me to get my eating and cravings under control. I have made several of your recipes and they are all great (especially the german chocolate mousse). Thank you for such a wonderful blog! Karah

I’ve been a follower of yours for awhile. I’ve been up and down with the sugar battle for the last 15 years. I’ve recently been placed on a really strict diet and I can’t have any type of sweetner, fruit, carbs (beans are ok) or grains…. do you happen to remember back to recipes that would fit those boundries? Oh, I’m allergic to rice and cashews….
    Thanks,
    Rene’

Amy, what an amazing and inspiring story! I was diagnosed with Celiac and dairy/egg/cane sugar food allergies about five weeks ago. I feel like a new person and can relate to your story. I’ve been about 40 pounds overweight for a while and have tried everything to lose it (including training for a half marathon) with little success. Until now. Five weeks of going without my food allergens and I’ve lost over ten pounds already. The best news is that I don’t crave sugar or wheat anymore — at least during the day. I’ve been dreaming about cake batter for weeks (seriously) and I wake up hungry a lot. I’m wondering if you had some of the same reactions when you first went gluten/sugar free? Thanks again for your blog. Keep up the great work!

Hi my name is Emily and I’m addicted to sugar.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. I want to say your website is amazing. I’ve been researching for gluten free or sugar free recipes that might be a little easier…I’m not a master in the kitchen, but am hoping I can try some of your recipes soon (my husband does most of the cooking.) I get scared by recipes with lots of ingredients and lived mostly on canned/boxed foods growing up.

I had my first child nearly a year ago and I’m having a terribly tough time with my weight. I feel horrible most of the time.

Your site has inspired me. I’m going to start my journey now…even if it is just one recipe replacement at a time.

I’m going to start with Raw Brownies.

@Emily, I’m sending wishes for a marvelous journey. It isn’t always easy but it’s worth it. I know because I’ve lived it…and do even today. Sometimes when life is a little too hard – and it can be – I think that too much food would be a great diversion. But, for some reason I can’t even do it anymore…something magnificent stops me before I go down that road and I remember once again that it’s ok to have my feelings and I don’t have to run from them.

And, Emily, we all do it one recipe at a time. It’s the only way that works.

    Much Love,
    Amy
