Slightly Indulgent…Tuesday!

Welcome to Slightly Indulgent Tuesday – I am sorry that some people didn’t know that day was moved.  After some consideration and feedback from other people, I decided that Tuesday might work better for all involved.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Joe and I planned on traveling but one of our dogs was sick so we stayed home.  We had a great time – Thanksgiving morning we ran jogged slowly in a 5k – the 42nd Annual Turkey Trot, had breakfast at IHop, and then came home and I cooked a fabulous gluten free, sugar free meal.  It was so nice to be able to eat everything that was served and to not have to ask questions about what’s in the food.  No one told me that I should at least take a few bites to please the cook, nor did anyone imply that I was just being difficult.  Needless to say, we loved every minute of our holiday.

My submission for this week is a favorite of mine – green smoothies.  If you haven’t seen my post yet, head over there and let me know what you think.

Last week we had some fabulous recipes, and since it’s cooled off I’ve been thinking I might want pancakes for breakfast, or even dinner.  Naturally, I was happy to see Linda’s buckwheat pancake recipe.  And, if you’re looking for a spin on gluten-free cornbread for Christmas you should take a peek at this sweet potato corm bread recipe.

I can’t wait to see all of your healthier recipes this week.  When you link, please tell us who you are and what you’re cooking . For example, I would enter:

Amy @ Simply Sugar & Gluten Free – Green Smoothies.

Please link to your individual post, not your homepage. Please link back to this post so that your readers can find the recipes here. Thanks for your help on this.

Reminders:

This Thursday is Hoilday Food Fest and I’m hosting!  Make sure to come by and link your favorite holiday cocktail, mocktail, or appetizer – or one of each!  You can also just say hello.  Either way you’ll be entered in a great give-away to win one of two gourmet prizes from Honeyville Grain – a 5 pound bag of almond flour or a gift assortment of their flax seed, gourmet cocoa, and dried apples.

The Gluten-Free Lifestyle Carnival is up at The Food Allergy Coach. Kim is the mastermind behind this fun event – make sure to stop by and check out the submissions for this month.  You’ll find product reviews, recipes, and great gluten free tips.

Tomorrow I’ll have my Once-A-Month-Cooking post up…check in to see what prep work I do to save time throughout the month.  I’ll also be sharing what I learned from last month – what worked and what didn’t .  You can follow along on Twitter, too – look for the hashtag #oamc. Mr. Linky still absent? Here’s a real food recipe for deviled eggs, without any processed ingredients. :) Just a smidge of sugar – but you could leave that out!

My Thanksgiving was similar to yours. Ran in a race and then came home and cooked! Your green smoothie sounds delish.

Hey I just linked you up on my page (I have a bad habit of remembering to do that a couple of hours after I link up here…Sorry!) I’m curious as to how your geen smoothies taste. Do they taste more like juice or more like green? You said you feel better after drinking them for a couple weeks? I am always interested in bettering my health! Thanks Amy.

    Amy Reply:

@Chelsey, The first two weeks of green smoothies were rough because my intestines had some healing to do – the bad bacteria dies off and the good bacteria starts growing (according to Ali @ Whole Life Nutrition). So everything slowed way down. That was really the issue. From the first day I started drinking them I felt a natural energy all day – and even drank less coffee. (my one major vice…)

I’m glad you and Joe had such an unexpectedly nice Thanksgiving. Sorry your dog has been so ill though.

I added a pot pie recipe that can be made with turkey or vegan. It’s gluten free, of course, and I made it dairy free and sugar free. It’s really delicious.

Can’t wait to check out all these other recipes! Looks like another great Slightly Indulgent week here. :-)
